Alex Schmidt is a student and teacher of improv comedy. The philosophies of play and improvisation inherent to Schmidt's work are deeply informed by the writings of Jack Halberstam, LARPing, studies with Julia Crockett and Mariana Valencia, and social constructivist paradigms such as the Harold (long form improvisation), social therapy, and the Reggio Emilia Approach. The latter is a post-fascist progressive pedagogy Schmidt has studied in New York, NY and Reggio Emilia, Italy since 2011, in which the “Atelierista” (current professional title) respects the child as co-creator of knowledge. Schmidt teach improvisational performance to a wide variety of people and communities. Clients include BlackRock, SkillSet, and TriBeCa Community School.
